New Endings and Old Beginings

So the lack of having to funnel money to Dubai to fuel my motor driven vehicle has left about as much extra money in my bank account as I had planned for. The result is a new steed to ride off into glory. Before we go there, however, we must all pay homage to the old ride. The Trek 4100 somehow persisted against all odds. For it was a good ride, one that brought many beer runs into my life.

Alrighty… out with the old and in with the new. No, I’m not talking about women (usually by the time you are finished with the old lady you simply don’t want a new one). I’m still talking about bicycles here, and boy was I ready for a new one. After months of research I simply couldn’t find a better deal that the Motobecane Fantom.  I actually desired the Fantom Pro, but the distributor was out of stock until September; far longer than I was willing to wait.  So on Monday the Fantom frame arrived, and Tuesday all the remaining parts and accessories arrived. Tuesday night was the build night.

That’s how it all started. After roughly 4 hours the new ride was fully assembled (photos forthcoming). Many thanks to Paul for doing his thing.

Naturally a beer run needed to be the first ride. It seemed fitting. Following me home (like they had a choice in the matter) was the Unibroue La Terrible (and it’s far from terrible!) and the Lakefront IPA. And let me tell you a 10% Belgian style sure can kick your ass weeeeeeeeeee!

Near the beginning of the ride Paul had to reel me back in. It seems my new ride affords me more speed than Paul is willing to chase down. Of course he blamed it on an injury. Whether I believe the injury excuse or not matters not; I’m just pleased I’m no longer holding up the pack.

More details to follow soon on exactly how my Motobecane has been rigged for daily commuting…
